Children’s Choruses

  • May 20-21, 2024, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

To schedule an audition, contact Krista at 208.345.3531 ext. 2 or krista@operaidaho.org.

Auditions are not required for Kinder Chorus (ages 4 to 1st grade), just contact Krista to sign up.

Angelus Chorus (2nd to 5th grade) singers are asked to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle” in three different keys and then echo clapping. This is so we can determine the singer’s range, if they can move up, find their pitch and follow tempo.

Excelsior Chorus (6th to 12th grade) and Kiwanis Boys Choir (unchanged male voices in 3rd-9th grade) singers are asked to sing “America” (My Country ‘tis of Thee). Then we will check their vocal range, do some tonal memory activities, have them read rhythms from flash cards, and then sing a round together with the director.

Con Spirito Chorus (10th to 12th grade, SATB chamber music ensemble) auditions are similar to those of Excelsior and Kiwanis, adding an option for them to sing a part of a song they know, a cappella. If they do not have one on hand, they may sing “Happy Birthday”, a cappella if they would rather. They will also sing 2 octaves of a scale on either solfege or on numbers 1-8, and finally singing back 3-4 note intervals back to the director.

Critical Mass Vocal Artists

  • Dates TBD

Critical Mass Vocal Artists (CMVA) is a professional choral ensemble consisting of trained singers in the Treasure Valley that produces excellent choral music focusing on contemporary octavo literature of a high caliber along with educational outreach, directed by Dr. Michael Porter.

To schedule an audition, email Michael Porter at cmporter1750@gmail.com.

To audition, prepare a selected song of your choice—a pianist will be provided. In addition, there will be a short sight reading and tonal memory exercise. You will sing your appropriate vocal line to a provided musical selection, which will be sent to you after you schedule your audition.
