Student Matinée FAQ
Here we answer the most frequently asked questions we receive regarding our student matinées. If you have a question that is not listed here, please e-mail Amber Smith.
Who may attend the student matinée?
Groups of students in grades 7-12 from public, private, charter and home schools are all welcome to attend.
What about elementary schools? Are they not invited to the student matinée?
At this time we are not able to open this opportunity to elementary school students. We will, however, be touring the elementary schools with a condensed version of an opera in the Spring of 2011. Please watch this site for updates as they become available.
Parents who want to see this show with their younger children are encouraged to buy tickets to one of the performances. Student rush tickets are $15 and are available one (1) hour prior to show time. Anyone with a valid student ID card may purchase a student rush ticket.
Can homeschool students attend the student matinée?
Homeschoolers are absolutely welcome to attend the matinee, but they must arrange to come in a group of 10 students or more. Also, no more than 1 chaperone for every 10 children will be permitted to attend the matinée. For example, a group of 30 students could come with a maximum of 3 chaperones.
Upon arrival at the theatre, home school groups must congregate outside the Egyptian Theatre and enter to check in only when their entire group has arrived. Opera Idaho will only check in entire groups, not individuals.
Why is there a limit on the number of chaperones who can accompany a group?
There is limited seating in the Egyptian, and we are only able to offer one student matinée at this time. We want to maximize the number of students who are able to attend.
Parents who want to see this show with their children are encouraged to buy tickets to one of the performances.
Will there be an intermission?
There will be 2 intermissions. During the intermission between Act I and II, Opera Idaho staff will assist schools who must leave in loading their buses. All schools are welcome to stay for the entirety of the dress rehearsal, as their schedule allows.
Will food be permitted in the theatre?
Yes, students will be permitted to bring their lunch and eat it at the theatre. Please be aware that the Egyptian Theatre will not be selling any refreshments.
Will there be seating assignments, or is it open seating?
There will be seating assignments. Seating assignments will be made in the order of RSVPs received.
Is Handicapped Seating available?
Yes, there are a limited number of handicapped seats at the Egyptian Theatre. If anyone in your group requires handicapped seating, please e-mail Amber Smith. Special seating needs will be taken into account when seating assignments are arranged.
Please note that due to the limited number available, Opera Idaho can not guarantee that any person needing a handicapped seat will be able to sit with the rest of their group, although all efforts will be made to do so.
