Soprano Tara Victoria Smith Opera Idaho Artist-in-Residence, headlines a program of popular opera arias, including the show-stopper from La Fille du Régiment, in which she takes the lead role for Opera Idaho’s May 6 & 8 performances. Michele Detwiler, Boise Mezzo-Soprano will also sing popular arias and opera hits! Time is not exact (larger event is from 5:30 – 8:00).

Ricky Ian Gordon’s song cycle, a 70-minute modern and personal take on the Greek Myth of Orpheus and Euridice, features soprano Laura Rushing-Raynes, clarinetist Leslie Moreau and pianist Mark Hansen. Dancers are choreographed by Marla Hansen of Idaho Dance theatre. Performed in BAM’s Sculpture Court, Sephen Knapp’s lightpainting will provide the backgdrop for a new, visionary retelling of this age -old tale.
Composer Ricky Ian Gordon is most famous for composing The Grapes of Wrath, a full-scale opera with libretto by Michael Korie, which premiered at the Minnesota Opera in a production that then traveled first to Utah Opera and then to Pittsburgh Opera. Mr. Gordon’s songs have been performed and/or recorded by such internationally renowned singers as Renee Fleming, Dawn Upshaw, Audra MacDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Frederica Von Stade, Andrea Marcovicci, Harolyn Blackwell, and Betty Buckley, among many others.
