Why have you changed the Season Subscription format?
We listened to your feedback on why Season Subscriptions were problematic, and made changes based on those responses. Many of you felt the family opera, summer concert series, and smaller productions should be at a lesser rate, and not be included in the Season Subscription. Now, you can subscribe to our three Mainstage Operas, and pick-and-choose which Productions à la carte to attend, (hopefully all!).
What are the benefits to becoming a Season Subscriber?
As a Season Subscriber you receive:
- First pick on choice seats
- Tickets at a reduced rate
- Guaranteed entrance to our sold-out performances
- Exemption from paying ticketing fees ($3.75) on subscription and single tickets
- The opportunity to purchase Productions à la carte single tickets at a discounted rate
- The option to purchase discounted parking vouchers for the three Mainstage Operas
What are the differences between Mainstage Operas and Productions à la carte?
Mainstage Operas are our larger operas with full sets, costumes, and orchestra. All Mainstage Operas will be produced at The Egyptian Theatre.
Productions à la carte are a variety of projects and productions such as our family operas, song cycle projects, summer musical in concert, and other productions with an unconventional flair. These productions may not necessarily be produced at The Egyptian Theatre.
Can you tell me a little about each opera or performance?
Giuseppe Verdi’s last opera, Falstaff, revolves around the stock character, most well-known by his frequent appearances in Shakespeare’s plays. Falstaff will be conducted by Steve Crawford (La bohème, 2012; Madama Butterfly, 2011).
Ruggiero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci recounts the tragedy of a jealous husband who performs in a commedia dell’arte troupe. Pagliacci will be conducted by Timm Rolek (The Pirates of Penzance, 2011). This opera will incorporate Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite in collaboration with Ballet Idaho.
Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah is a part of our Made in the USA series: a yearly performance of an opera by an American composer revolving around an American theme. Susannah, written during the McCarthy era, tells the tale of an 18-year old innocent who is wrongly accused of being a sinner. Susannah will be conducted by Sara Jobin (Our Town, 2010; The Ballad of Baby Doe, 2012).
Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel will be performed by Opera Idaho as a condensed, hour-long family version. This opera revolves around the well-known Brothers Grimm story, and will be performed with Opera Idaho’s Children’s Choruses led by Director Linda Berg.
The Winterreise Project will be a collaboration by local opera artist Jason Detwiler and Trey McIntyre dancer Lauren Edson, as Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise is given a distinctive choreographic treatment.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music in Concert will continue the tradition of a musical in concert performed in the summertime.
What if I purchase an evening subscription package, but need to change one opera to the matinée time, at a later date?
After receiving your Season Tickets, you are welcome to trade a performance date per opera.
If I don’t purchase the Production à la carte single tickets before April 15th, how much will each ticket cost me?
We are currently offering 20% off for Production à la carte single tickets. Tier 1 and 2 refer to different level seating and pricing, pending venue. Full prices are:
| Tier 1: | Adult: | $40 | Tier 2: | Adult: | $20 | ||
| Senior: | $38 | Senior: | $18 | ||||
| Child: | $30 | Child: | $15 |
Why am I paying sales tax on my Season Subscription?
Idaho is one of few states in the union where nonprofit organizations are not exempt from sales tax on ticket sales. However, Opera Idaho is covering ticketing and printing fees.
How much money will I save on parking by purchasing a parking voucher? Where is the Capital Terrace parking lot?
These parking vouchers are definitely worth the purchase! One could spend anywhere from $5-$12 on parking when attending an opera at The Egyptian Theatre; $18 includes three vouchers, one for each Main Opera. The Capital Terrace is the parking garage closest to The Egyptian Theatre, in-between 8th and 9th Streets, and Main and Idaho Streets.
Are there other events offered by Opera Idaho?
There are a myriad of different events offered by Opera Idaho, such as Operatini parties (in which a local bartender creates an original martini based on specific operas), free concerts, art song recitals, pre-performance speeches, and the Coffee & Conversations linked with the Met Live-in-HD series. The best way to learn about these events is by being on our e-blast list. If you’re not currently signed up, please e-mail janessa@operaidaho.org, and we can ensure you get on that list today!
