Opera Idaho Local and National Auditions Announced

Opera Idaho invites passionate and skilled singing artists to audition for our upcoming production and performance opportunities. As a prominent cultural institution dedicated to enriching the community through the power of opera, we seek to collaborate with exceptional talents who embody the spirit of artistic excellence and storytelling.

Auditions will be held May 13-15 and 17-18, 2024 and are open to anyone who wish to be considered for principal main stage, comprimario, cover, chorus, educational school shows, community engagement performances, emerging artist opportunities, and soloists in Operatinis or other ticketed concerts. Artists will be considered for roles in the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 seasons. Managed and unmanaged singing artists are invited to apply.

If you are unable to make it to a live audition, you may submit 3 links to video recordings to be considered.

Audition Dates: 

  • May 13-15, 2024, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Local Auditions (Singers withing driving distance to Boise.)
  • May 17, 2024, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM and May 18, 2024, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM: National Auditions
  • June 15, 2024: Deadline for Video Audition submissions 

Singers may pick any time slot that works with their schedule on any audition day, regardless of location. However, local singers are encouraged to sign up for an audition on May 13-15, if possible. If you are not available for any of these time slots, but would still like to sing a live audition, please email auditions@operaidaho.org.

Although video auditions are accepted, local singers are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to do a live audition. If none of the available dates and times work for your schedule, please contact us. We will try to arrange a live audition date that works for you.

How to Apply:
To secure your audition slot, please submit your application using the appropriate audition form link below. Please be sure to follow instructions, and upload your resume, headshot, and repertoire list according to the requirements listed below. In the application you will be prompted to choose a day and time for your audition. You will receive a confirmation with your exact audition date and time after your application has been reviewed. Other Professional Performance Opportunities:

  • Emerging Artists – Young and Emerging Artists who will do a 2 – 6 month residency in Boise to gain valuable resume-building experience in lead and cover roles in our main stage productions, as soloists in other ticketed events and community outreach performances, and receiving professional coaching and instruction.
  • Operatinis – short performances of selected soloists or shorter works including opera, musical theatre, and jazz
  • Educational Outreach Shows – short educational performances developed and performed for youth in elementary, middle, and high schools around the state of Idaho.
  • Resident Company – community engagement and pop up performances, opera chorus, comprimario & lead roles, recitals, and other local performance opportunities.
  • Critical Mass Vocal Artists – Opera Idaho’s semi-professional choral ensemble performs four or more concerts each season. Auditions for CMVA will be announced soon. Please click here for more information about CMVA auditions.

Compensation:
Competitive compensation commensurate with industry standards.

Resident Company and Community Engagement Auditions

Open to anyone within driving distance of Boise who wishes to be considered for our next season including principal, comprimario, cover, chorus, and other education or general referral engagement opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Prepare 2-3 pieces from the opera, musical theater, or art song genres that best represent your vocal ability.
  • At least one piece must be in a foreign language, and one must be in English
  • All selections must be memorized.
  • Prepare a short choral excerpt from the opera or classical choral repertoire.*
  • Video submissions must be submitted on or before June 15th for consideration.

*Click here to download the prepared choral excerpt. Please prepare the excerpt according to your preferred voice part (sopranos/mezzos “Noi siamo zingarelle” page 1-2, tenors/basses “Di Madride” page 3-4, all voice parts page 5-7) and also the tutti section beginning with “Ah… godiamo la tazza…”

Main Stage and Emerging Artist Auditions

Open to anyone who wishes to be considered as a Main Stage principal artist or Emerging Artist for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Both managed and unmanaged singing artists are welcome to participate.

Singers who wish to be considered for both Main Stage and Resident Company opportunities should prepare a main stage audition package.

Requirements:

  • Prepare 4-5 arias in multiple languages and styles that best represent your vocal ability.
  • Also include at least one musical theatre selection if you wish to be considered for musical theatre work
  • You are encouraged to sing a piece from the opera or role for which you wish to be considered.
  • All selections must be memorized.
  • Video submissions must be submitted on or before June 15 for consideration.
